The other day I was talking to a colleague of mine about how why salespeople resist training. We talked about how when we first started selling cars we would have killed (not literally) for access to training and mentoring. Neither of us could understand why salespeople today are so complacent with mediocrity. My colleague then mentioned the Seven Car Club. I told him that I did not know what that was. He proceeded to show me the following video on YouTube:
Pretty funny, right? I actually laughed out loud while watching this. I can’t believe I had never seen this video before. The funniest part about this 12 year of video is that everything in it is all true. Other than the fact, that the names have been changed, to protect the innocent and the guilty, the rest is pretty much exactly 100% accurate to the 7 Car Club that exists in every dealership today. People say that the best comedy is based on real event and this video is no exception.
So, What Club Are You In?
The Green Pea
Are you a green pea? Are you new to the business? This is not an excuse to be at the bottom of the sales board. I have seen and trained many new salespeople that skyrocketed to the top of the board and never looked back, even after the 90-day smarts.
The Burn Out
If you are burned out, get over it or get out of the business. You are not doing yourself, nor anyone else around you any good just showing up at work and not doing any thing productive. The fact is that you are actually doing all of your co-workers a disservice by spreading your negative attitude around the dealership to the employees and customers.
The Majority
Being in the middle of the pack is not good enough. The only good news about being in the middle of the curve is that you must have the basic enough skills to sell some cars. And that means the only thing that is holding you back is you. With the right drive, motivation, and a commitment to get better you can very easily rise to the head of the class.
The Head of the Class
Just because you are the Head of the Class does not mean that you are among the best in the business. You are more than likely a big fish in a small pond. And this might actually be holding you back from your true potential. Don’t just settle for being the best at your dealership, that is not enough. You must keep pushing to become the best of the best or you will find yourself in the not-so-distant future becoming one of the burn outs.
The Best of the Best
This club was not actually mentioned in the video and that is probably be the best of the best are actually so few and far between. These are the salespeople that sell 60, 70, 80, even 100 cars per month. They never take a fresh-up, phone-pop, or internet lead. They are the Ultimate Self-marketers and always doing what it takes to create and drive business. This is a lot of work in the beginning and not easy, however the gold at the end of the rainbow is worth it. Do you have what it takes?
The Seven Car Club
Last but not least, to you, the members of the Seven Car Club. Wake up! You are better than this. No one wants to be in this club, no one should be in this club, especially not you. The Seven Car Club is really the path of least resistance for any salesperson who has any talent but refuses to use it. Why settle for this mediocracy? Because it is easier to settle for mediocracy, than it is to commit to something you could potentially fail at. Don’t take the easy road to mediocrity, don’t fear failure. Put yourself out there, kick yourself in the butt. Take advantage of those in your life that want to help you do better (like me) and leave the Seven Car Club behind. I know leaving your friends behind and doing better for yourself and your family can be scary, but you can do it and we will be right there beside you, to help you along the way!Â
